Geneva open gateway to ground

Eleven days before the start of UEFA EURO 2008™, Geneva has inaugurated its 'Footbridge of Sports' aiding the route for pedestrians and cyclists between Bachet-de-Pesay tram and bus stop and Stade de Genève.

Ease of access
The 185-metre wooden bridge will allow for safe and easy movement for up to 30,000 spectators to the city's stadium, which will stage the Group A fixtures between Portugal and Turkey on 7 June, Czech Republic v Portugal on 11 June and Turkey v Czech Republic four days after that. The bridge was planned in the late 1990s before the construction of the stadium and Switzerland's successful bid to host the European Championship along with Austria in 2002.

Future events
Geneva's authorities were delighted with the bridge's opening, which they hope relieve some of the traffic in the region's public highways during the tournament. The construction of the bridge also improves the city's hopes of hosting further events following UEFA EURO 2008™.

Innsbruck flying the EURO flag

Austrian host city Innsbruck is distributing 5,000 flags to residents to add colour to its buildings and streets ahead of UEFA EURO 2008™.
Free of charge
The flags, which display the official tournament livery, can be collected free of charge until the end of the month. Innsbruck ambassador Hansi Müller, who handed out the first batch in tandem with organising committee chairman Dr Christoph Platzgummer, said: "The EURO flag is a great welcome sign to our guests. You can see that Innsbruck has prepared itself well and that the people are getting increasingly excited about EURO."

Additional flights
Fans of Spain, Sweden and Russia will descend on the western city for Group D fixtures next month, while the Czech Republic will train in Tirol and use Innsbruck as a departure airport for matches in Switzerland. An additional 270 flights are expected in June to meet demand, and organisers are confident things will run smoothly.

Speedy checks
Private security guards will work in tandem with local police to ensure passengers pass through checks as quickly as possibly, while a newly-built equipment store will be kept open all night on matchdays and used as a temporary waiting point as a night flying ban will remain in place during EURO. National teams and high-ranking state visitors will be the exception to this rule, however.

Infopoints
When fans arrive in Innsbruck they may benefit from the 14 Infopoints dotted around the city, where specially trained volunteers will be on hand to answer questions from 12.00CET until 19.00. They will provide comprehensive information on issues such as transport, Fan Zones and the entertainment programme. There will be Infopoints dotted around the city centre, as well as at the airport, Fan Zone and the fan camp.

Innsbruck Hotels

Music acts
Innsbruck will also be offering a top-class music programme for those attending the tournament. Although the football is the main attraction, residents and visitors alike will be kept entertained by various artists on the Fan Zone stage. Among those performing are Christina Stürmer, Juli, Rednex, Smokie, Sportfreunde Stiller, Revolverheld, Liquido and local act Reinhard Fendrich.

Basel begins constructing Fan Zones

With just over a fortnight remaining before UEFA EURO 2008™ kicks off, work to assemble the public viewing area and Fan Zone has started in Basel.

Large changesThe supporting frame for the 60m² video screen has been installed, with the giant screen to go up on 2 June. Further construction, such as the covering of grass areas and erecting of temporary facilities, will be completed in the coming days. The work will be conducted at night in order to keep disruption of traffic to a minimum.

Klagenfurt out in numbers for Tour

The EURO Experience Tour proved to be a huge success during its four-day stop in Klagenfurt, attracting 9,000 visitors between 3 and 6 April.

Klagenfurt Hotels

'Total success'
"The EURO Experience Tour in Klagenfurt was a total success for us," declared UEFA EURO 2008™ tournament director Christian Schmölzer. Fans flocked to the world's largest inflatable tent to have their photo taken next to the Henri Delaunay trophy and watch a film of the past tournaments. The EURO Experience Tour is getting fans in the mood for UEFA EURO 2008™ and will be visiting 13 cities in Austria and Switzerland, including all eight host cities, before the tournament kicks off on 7 June. The next stop is Salzburg and the EURO Experience Tour will in town between 10 and 16 April.

Vienna Fan Zone taking shape

Vienna is a hive of activity as preparations continue apace for UEFA EURO 2008™ with the finishing touches now being put in place on the city's Fan Zone.
Vienna Hotels

Big event
"We have 100,000m² to cable, which is way larger than any other event," said Thomas Karab who is responsible for constructing the Fan Zone. He and 200 others are installing a 70m² video screen, dozens of toilets and five kilometres of fencing around the Fan Zone at Helden Square which will have a capacity of 15,000 during the tournament.

Stars to gather at 'fifth stadium'

Work has started on constructing the official 45,000-capacity UEFA EURO 2008™ fan zone in Zurich with three screens being erected to show matches.

Floating platform
The fan zone will offer public viewing facilities as well as a full culinary and cultural programme during the finals, with one of the highlights set to be the 1,600 metre squared platform which will house one of the giant screens on Lake Zurich itself. The 30-tonne screen will be one of the great engineering feats of the finals, floating 12 metres above the surface of the lake at its highest point.

Salzburg catering for residents and fans

Salzburg officials have confirmed a range of initiatives to ensure that UEFA EURO 2008™ runs smoothly in the Austrian city.

Two-year plan
Preparations for the tournament have been in motion for the past two years among the city's administration to meet the needs of the thousands of supporters who will visit the city in June, as well as ensuring that everyday lives of residents are not disrupted. "Twenty workers will be on hand constantly cleaning the Old Town four times a day during the European Championship," said Salzburg magistrate director Hans Jörg Bachmaier. "All told there will be 10,000 overtime hours amassed." Bachmaier also said that 23 of the 32 offices within the city's administration are directly or indirectly affected by the tournament and its planning.

Salzburg Hotels

Service provision
Other services include an extended opening of the Resident Service department until 21.00 local time, extra toilet facilities and sign-posting, and a central telephone service. Mayor Heinz Schaden explained: "We are striving for a peaceful football festival, one which hinders the everyday life of the city's residents as little as possible."

'On course'
The key to implementing the schemes, says coordinator of Salzburg, Wolfgang Weiss, has been efficient communication with the city's administration. "Everything is on course. We talk regularly so there are no delays," he said. The same goes for the work on the official UEFA Fan Zone, which is to be erected by 29 May, with the zone's technical issues set to be completed in time for a trouble-free opening on 7 June.

EURO 2008 Numbers adding up

UEFA EURO 2008™ is almost upon us and a bountiful array of figures suggest it will be the most successful continental showpiece yet.

Ticket sales
No fewer than 1.05m tickets have been sold after an initial 10,359,177 applications from supporters in 142 countries around the world. The media will be well represented too, with around 10,000 media accreditations to be issued. Those unable to see the action live will be able to keep informed via euro2008.com, which expects 1.2 billion page views, while global television audiences are set to exceed the figure of 8 billion achieved at UEFA EURO 2004™. The official Fan Zones are expected to be a hit as well, with the Vienna Fan Zone able to cater for 70,000 supporters.

Volunteer initiative
A further 17,644 people from 150 countries hoped to get closer to the action by applying to become volunteers. Of that figure, 10,000 were interviewed and 5,000 given a role at one of the host venues, with the oldest volunteer being 78 years of age. At the opposite end of the spectrum, 682 schoolchildren aged between six and ten will accompany the players on to the pitch at all 31 matches.

Stadium challenge
Preparing the stadiums has proved a monumental undertaking as well, with about 5km of flags produced to decorate upper tiers and 80,000m² of temporary structures built around the eight arenas. Likewise, 300 temporary toilets have been built and 256 stadium kiosks for the sale of refreshments. Expect the pitches to be immaculate too, with grass length at every stadium to be 23mm.

Social projects
UEFA will also be supporting various causes during the tournament and has pledged €2.2m to five social projects, each targeting a different group. Each host city will also receive €740,000 and two LED display walls for the Fan Zones, along with a set contribution of €375,000. UEFA has similarly invested €4.9m in the combination-ticket system which will allow UEFA EURO 2008™ ticket-holders to travel for free on match days via public transport. Click here for more statistics.
Vienna has put the finishing touches to its transport plans for UEFA EURO 2008™ with visitors being urged to take full advantage of local public transport.

Special arrangements
Transport councilor Rudolf Schicker, city transport chief Josef Binder and Michael Lichtenegger of local transport operator Wiener Lienen jointly unveiled the final draft of their plan for the tournament. They are expecting an additional 500,000 guests to use the transport network on top of the 2.2m who use it every working day and have made special arrangements to ensure smooth operation.

Opening hours
Capacity on underground lines will be increased by 25 per cent throughout the day and by as much as 50 per cent on evenings to deal with the increased football-related traffic. Local transport services will operate until 1.30 in the morning throughout the tournament, with Viennese authorities hoping fans will put their faith in public transport during the finals.

Car parking
Vienna wants to keep road traffic at a minimum for the finals, and has set up a number of free parking areas at the edge of the city, close to local train and underground stations, to encourage fans to leave their vehicles outside Vienna, although a clear signposting system has been set up to enable visiting drivers to find their way around the city streets.

EURO Companions
Visiting fans can pick up a leaflet entitled Traffic & Service which provides details of the transport options available in the city, with 100,000 having been printed. In addition, so-called EURO Companions – Vienna transport staff who can speak foreign languages – will be on hand to provide guests with information about train, underground and bus services in the Austrian capital.

Domenech springs Gomis surprise

France coach Raymond Domenech has given his UEFA EURO 2008™ squad an injection of youth after including striker Bafétimbi Gomis and goalkeeper Steve Mandanda in his 23-man list.
Superb goals Gomis was a surprise inclusion in Domenech's provisional 30-man squad for this week's training camp in Tignes, yet the exciting AS Saint-Etienne striker outlined his potential by scoring two superb goals on his international debut against Ecuador in Grenoble on Tuesday. That performance convinced Domenech to take the 22-year-old to Austria and Switzerland this summer in a strikeforce that includes Thierry Henry, Karim Benzema and Nicolas Anelka, but not Djibril Cissé, one of the seven casualties.

Landreau left out
Olympique de Marseille custodian Mandanda also made his senior international bow this week, replacing Sébastien Frey at half-time against the South American side. Aged 23, Mandanda has been rewarded for his fine first season at Stade Vélodrome, and takes his place alongside first-choice goalkeeper Grégory Coupet and Frey of ACF Fiorentina, with Paris Saint-Germain FC's Mickaël Landreau missing out.

Nasri included
Meanwhile, another Marseille player Samir Nasri was preferred to Olymique Lyonnais winger Hatem Ben Arfa, there was no room for FC Girondins de Bordeaux midfielder Alou Diarra or new AC Milan recruit Mathieu Flamini, while defenders Julien Escudé and Philippe Mexes were also excluded.

'Shattered dreams'
Domenech described the experience of telling the seven players they would not be part of the group for the finals as "the toughest moment of my career". He added: "When you have to tell someone that they must leave and that their dreams have been shattered, it isn't easy. I think they all understood. I had a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach and I had tears in my eyes; it's very, very hard. Making the decision is easy, but announcing it and seeing the reactions is very hard."

France squad
Goalkeepers: Grégory Coupet (Olympique Lyonnais), Sébastien Frey (ACF Fiorentina), Steve Mandanda (Olympique de Marseille).

Defenders: Willy Sagnol (FC Bayern München), Lilian Thuram (FC Barcelona), William Gallas (Arsenal FC), Eric Abidal (FC Barcelona), Patrice Evra (FC Manchester United), Jean-Alain Boumsong (Olympique Lyonnais), François Clerc (Olympique Lyonnais), Sébastien Squillaci (Olympique Lyonnais).

Midfielders: Patrick Vieira (FC Internazionale Milano), Claude Makelele (Chelsea FC), Jérémy Toulalan (Olympique Lyonnais), Lassana Diarra (Portsmouth FC), Franck Ribéry (FC Bayern München), Florent Malouda (Chelsea FC), Samir Nasri (Olympique de Marseille).

Forwards: Sidney Govou (Olympique Lyonnais), Nicolas Anelka (Chelsea FC), Thierry Henry (FC Barcelona), Karim Benzema (Olympique Lyonnais), Bafétimbi Gomis (AS Saint-Etienne).

Fan zone work in progress in Zurich

Work has started on constructing the official 45,000-capacity UEFA EURO 2008™ fan zone in Zurich with three screens being erected to show matches.

Floating platform
The fan zone will offer public viewing facilities as well as a full culinary and cultural programme during the finals, with one of the highlights set to be the 1,600 metre squared platform which will house one of the giant screens on Lake Zurich itself. The 30-tonne screen will be one of the great engineering feats of the finals, floating 12 metres above the surface of the lake at its highest point.

Ramos relaxed as Spain start training

Sergio Ramos was not feeling the pressure as the Spain squad met up for their pre-UEFA EURO 2008™ training camp aiming to end their 44-year wait for a major title.

Not favourites
The squad have gathered in the national training centre at Las Rozas with an eye on emulating the 1964 European champions who earned Spain their sole senior international honour. With most bookmakers they are behind only Germany in the betting to do just that but Real Madrid CF defender Ramos is not letting such predictions go to his head. "To say we're favourites would be an error," the 22-year-old said. "Wherever we go we arrive with humility and in a relaxed frame of mind. We have to take things step by step and that begins with our first game."

Morale high
That is against Group D rivals Russia on 10 June in Innsbruck, following friendlies against Peru in Huelva on Saturday and the United States in Santander on 4 June. A few nerves were highlighted on arrival at the Ciudad del Fútbol when Liverpool FC's Álvaro Arbeloa accidentally left his suitcase in the taxi that took him from the airport but his defensive colleague Ramos says morale is high. "I'm really looking forward to getting started with my team-mates. Let's see if we can achieve something important," he said. "We're hopeful and we'll be trying to win."

Van Basten - Decision time ?

Defenders, midfielders and goalkeepers are battling for squad places as the Netherlands' pre-finals programme starts with a game against Ukraine on Saturday.

Decisive fixture
Marco van Basten's side welcome Ukraine at De Kuip in Rotterdam in the first of three friendly fixtures arranged to gear up for UEFA EURO 2008™, but the match is likely to be the end of the road for three players. A goalkeeper, defender and midfielder are all expected to fall by the wayside as the coach looks to reduce his 26-man provisional squad down to 23 before the 28 May deadline. "We would prefer to decide on the squad this weekend, but due to circumstances we have to be careful," said Van Basten.

Notable absentees
The coach does not yet have a full selection to pick from. Robin van Persie (thigh) and Mario Melchiot (groin) are injured and Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink are "most unlikely to play" against Ukraine, as they are only due to join the squad on Friday. Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar and midfielder Wesley Sneijder, meanwhile, will not arrive until Monday.

Key selections
A goalkeeper – Henk Timmer or Sander Boschker – is sure to miss the cut, while one from the defensive trio of Khalid Boulahrouz, Melchiot and André Ooijer is earmarked for disappointment. "I do not need all three of them, so one of those three will drop out," Van Basten said. "Hopefully all three will be fit after the weekend, so we can make a better choice." If Melchiot can regain his fitness in time, Boulahrouz is likely to be the aggrieved party.

EURO ambition
Van Basten explained that he will try and use his projected first XI for 9 June's Group C opener against Italy in the subsequent friendlies against Denmark (29 May) and Wales (1 June). "EURO is a kind of re-examination," he said. "Since the [FIFA] World Cup we have grown as a team, and are two years more mature. Expectations and demands are higher, and with good reason."

'Test run'
Nigel de Jong, Demy de Zeeuw, Denny Landzaat and Orlando Engelaar appear to be vying for three midfield places and in all Van Basten will have a lot to consider during and after the Ukraine game. "This is a first test run," he said. "We are experimenting on the road to the EURO. The result and performance matter, but are of less importance for now."

Euro-Fans choose slogans for Euro 2008 team buses

By Mark Ledsom BERNE, Switzerland (Reuters) - Supporters of the national sides competing at Euro 2008 have been given a new way of driving their teams on.

Tournament organisers on Thursday presented the designs of the 16 participating team's buses including some colourful messages of support selected by the fans in an online survey.

The supporters of the host nations seem to differ in their tournament ambitions with Switzerland's bus declaring, "Final destination: Vienna," referring to the tournament final in the Austrian capital on June 29.

Co-hosts Austria, whose preparations have been hampered by a string of bad results and internal spats, will travel to their games with the more cautious message: "Only together we can win…"

The full list of messages presented on the official tournament Web site (www.euro2008.uefa.com) includes a somewhat poetic entry by fans of reigning world champions Italy who assert that "the sky is always bluer."

Perhaps influenced by their team's reputation for underperformance, Spanish fans have opted for "Whatever happens, Spain always."

Russian supporters have weighed in one of the wordier contributions, proudly declaring that "Russian hands are all for one! Russia's proud of her sons!"

The emotional Turks meanwhile ask "Would passion of Turkey fit into this bus?"

The messages chosen by the supporters will be painted on the team buses in each country's own language and in English for the tournament which begins on June 7.

Enrique Iglesias Lyrics - Can You Hear Me Lyrics

Artist: Enrique Iglesias Song: Can You Hear Me

Can You Hear Me!

I remember that I can still feel you
Sometimes I’m blind but I see you
You are here but so far away

The times when you wanna.. Im missing you
Makes me feel like I’m spinning
Sometimes you get what you gain

I’m on a coaster-collision
Am not about to give in
Can’t explain my position or the condition that I’m in.

Where I am is no limit, no walls, no ceilings
No intermission, so let
Let the party begin.

(Chorus)
Hey.. Hey.. Hey all the way
DJ let it play.
Hey Hey Can You Hear Me?
Oooow
Hey.. Hey.. Hey all the way
DJ let it play.
Hey Hey Can You Hear Me?
Oooow

Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me?
Oooow

Don’t you mean that you’re my vision
I gotta make a decision
Do I go, do I stay? (Stay)

You’ve gotten into my system
You are in control of my mental
I need to mean for a stay (???)

I’m on a coaster-collision
Am not about to give in
Can’t explain my position or the condition that I’m in.

Where I am is no limit, no walls, no ceilings
No intermission, so let
Let the party begin

(Chorus)
Hey.. Hey.. Hey all the way
DJ let it play.
Hey Hey Can You Hear Me?
Oooow

Hey.. Hey.. Hey all the way
DJ let it play.
Hey Hey Can You Hear Me?
Oooow

Oooow Oooow Oooow Oooow Oooow Oooow
Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me? Can You Hear Me?

Austrian parliament says no to racism

The Austrian parliament made a statement against racism in football on Tuesday in anticipation of UEFA EURO 2008™ in the country this summer.

Tolerance
Leading parliamentary officials invited figures from the worlds of sport and politics to the anti-racism event which sent out a clear message of tolerance in the build-up to the football finals. The gathering at the parliament buildings in Vienna was the initiative of the president of the national assembly, Barbara Prammer, together with second and third presidents, Dr Michael Spindelegger and Dr Eva Glawischnig.

Widespread support
It was organised in co-operation with UEFA's long-time partner, the Football Against Racism in Europe movement, and drew support from federal chancellor Dr Alfred Gusenbauer, Austrian Football Association general secretary Alfred Ludwig, EURO co-ordinator Heinz Palme and Austria's tournament director Christian Schmölzer. To cap the occasion, a friendly match took place involving players from Viennese clubs with an international background and also prominent footballers such as SK Rapid Wien's Steffen Hofmann.

Turks desires for Euro 2008

Turkey displayed a Jekyll and Hyde set of performances in qualifying for Euro 2008 and they will be earnestly hoping that if they produce their earlier form they can emulate the 2000 squad and at least make the quarterfinals.

However a repeat of their poor displays especially against Bosnia and Malta would see them realistically returning home early and to what could be a hostile reception from the football-mad country.

For just as Indian and Pakistani cricketers have their effigies regularly burned after a poor result so Turkish fans expect the highest level of performances from their side.

There will be no lacking in motivation for a squad that has effectively been short over the past few years of the members of the side that did so outstandingly well to reach the 2002 World Cup semifinals, though, two prominent members of the team remain in Emre and Yildiray Basturk.

In Fatih Terim they have as fired up a coach as one could imagine, some would say that he overdoes it, and his opening meeting with the Portuguese coached by the equally volatile Felipe Scolari could well set the tempo for the group.

It is the second group match, though, that promises to provoke fireworks and will be watched nervously by the organisers and governing body Uefa as co-hosts Switzerland take them on in a match that could prove pivotal as to which one progresses.

As if that doesn't present a tense enough atmosphere then there is the revenge factor as in their last meeting.

The Swiss ousted the Turks in the 2006 World Cup finals play-off which provoked disgraceful scenes with the Turkish players attacking several of their Swiss opponents while Terim actively encouraged them to do so.

However when the Turks keep a cool head they are a difficult team to take on and their pulsating 4-1 defeat of bitter rivals and reigning champions Greece in Athens earlier in the qualifiers illustrated how good they can be on their day.

In Emre, who has not enjoyed a happy time at Premiership side Newcastle United, and Basturk they have two solid and experienced campaigners but it will be Villarreal's marksman Nihat Kahveci that they will be looking to for goals and for attacking inspiration.

Terim was a relieved man when Nihat returned to action after a serious knee injury last year and scored vital goals in their last two qualifiers to ensure they edged out Norway by a point.

Expectation as ever in Turkey is of at least a knockout phase place. Anything less and the players would be well advised in making holiday reservations abroad. - Sapa-AFP

Chec kit out – the new Sweden away shirt!

So with the world looking on expectantly (well the Swedes anyway) and Olof Mellberg no doubt stroking his prize-winning beard in characteristically calm excitement the last kit of the Euros has been unveiled – so gaze in delight at the Sweden away shirt, and may I say… What a beauty.

Using Umbro’s latest design template, the shirt is coloured in a majestic navy blue, with teasing flourishes of subtle yellow splashed across the shoulders – all topped off with a navy collar. I suggest it is likely to go down particularly well with our Scandinavian brethren, and make their admittedly handsome team look even more handsome on the pitch.

However – as I gushed on about this kit with delight to my blogging pal and confidante Tom, he pointed out that shouldn’t all the teams but Austria and Switzerland wear their away kit all the time? An obvious and silly point yes - but one I hadn’t really considered? I guess it would cut down on kit sales substantially, although I’m surprised the manufacturers haven’t yet come up with a money spinning ‘neutral’ 3rd kit, for tournaments just like this…

Larsson returns for Sweden EURO bid

Before revealing the players who would make up Sweden's UEFA EURO 2008™ squad in Stockholm today, coach Lars Lagerbäck announced that they would be read out in a random order. Apparently not, for when he got to the 23rd and final name, a cheer went through the Swedish press corps – Henrik Larsson was back.

Playing well
The 36-year-old retired from international football following Sweden's elimination by Germany at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, but remained in Lagerbäck's thoughts as he continued to impress at Helsingborgs IF, for whom he has scored six goals in eleven Allsvenskan outings this season. "There's been a glow about Henrik and his football throughout the spring," Lagerbäck said. "And I know that he looks like he's enjoying his football, he's playing good football. I thought about him returning during Helsingborg's UEFA Cup campaign, when Henrik played a big part in the team's success."

'Quick decision'
Larsson even made an appearance at the conference, albeit via a mobile phone link after journalists had asked to hear his thoughts. The former Feyenoord, Celtic FC, FC Barcelona and Manchester United FC striker said: "When I said I was retiring, I was in a disappointed frame of mind. I wasn't happy with our performance in that match against Germany, and I wasn't happy with my own performance either. At that point I didn't know that I'd keep playing football for as long as this – or that I would enjoy it as much as I am right now. Lars Lagerbäck phoned me yesterday while I was out playing golf. When I checked my voicemail I made a quick decision to say 'yes'."

Linderoth doubt
While Sweden welcomed back one veteran, another will not be travelling to EURO as Teddy Lucic resisted the call. Other surprises were scarce, with Fredrik Stoor of Rosenborg BK earning selection ahead of Halmstad BK's Peter Larsson, and Johan Wiland of IF Elfsborg claiming the third goalkeeping spot. Tobias Linderoth is included despite not having played this year, but will be replaced by Kennedy Bakircioglu if he fails to prove his fitness at a pre-finals training camp.

Sweden squad
Goalkeepers: Andreas Isaksson (Manchester City FC), Rami Shaaban (Hammarby), Johan Wiland (IF Elfsborg).

Defenders: Mikael Dorsin (CFR 1907 Cluj), Petter Hansson (Stade Rennais FC), Daniel Majstorovic (FC Basel 1893), Olof Mellberg (Aston Villa FC), Mikael Nilsson (Panathinaikos FC), Andreas Granqvist (Wigan Athletic FC), Fredrik Stoor (Rosenborg BK).

Midfielders: Niclas Alexandersson (IFK Göteborg), Daniel Andersson (Malmö FF), Kim Källström (Olympique Lyonnais), Sebastian Larsson (Birmingham City FC), Fredrik Ljungberg (West Ham United FC), Tobias Linderoth (Galatasaray AS), Christian Wilhelmsson (RC Deportivo La Coruña), Anders Svensson (IF Elfsborg).

Forwards: Marcus Allbäck (FC København), Henrik Larsson (Helsingborgs IF), Johan Elmander (Toulouse FC), Zlatan Ibrahimović (FC Internazionale Milano), Markus Rosenberg (Werder Bremen).

Big crowds proof of Swiss passion

Switzerland will co-host UEFA EURO 2008™ at the end of a bumper domestic season that has seen the Super League set new record attendance figures.

Biggest draw
A total of 1.96m supporters passed through the turnstiles in the course of the 2007/08 season, an increase of 217,000 on the 2006/07 campaign. With the exceptions of FC Sion and relegated FC Thun, all of the teams in the top division recorded an increased average home attendance, with champions FC Basel 1893 proving the biggest draw with average crowds of 23,539.

Fans flock to EURO 2008 Experience Tour

UEFA commercial director Philippe Margraff declared the Geneva leg of the EURO Experience Tour a success after more than 5,000 people visited the exhibition during its three-day stay in the Swiss city.

Tickets up for grabs
Four hundred school children in the Geneva area attended the event where they were able to watch a film of the competition's 48-year history, have their photo taken alongside the Henri Delaunay trophy, enjoy the interactive multimedia zone and win tickets in a quiz for one of the group games to be played in Geneva.

'Exceptional tournament'
"Through the EURO Experience Tour we hope to give a flavour of the party that awaits us at UEFA EURO 2008™ and a taste of more than 40 years of history of this exceptional tournament," Margraff said. "The impressive images on the big screen and the presence of the Henri Delaunay trophy create an atmosphere charged with emotion and not only for football fans."

Zurich next
The EURO Experience Tour is free and takes place in the world's biggest inflatable tour tent, which contains a 140-seat cinema. Geneva was the second stop on the tour after Basel, where 10,000 people attended the event two weeks ago and where UEFA EURO 2008™ kicks off on 7 June. The EURO Experience Tour will visit a number of locations in Austria and Switzerland, co-hosts for this summer's tournament, including all eight host cities. The next stop is Zurich from 21 February.

Artistic programme Present by Geneva for Euro 2008

With 32 days remaining before the start of UEFA EURO 2008™ Geneva state councillor Mark Müller unveiled the city's artistic programme, including no less than 800 artists.

'Rich programme'
The events, planned for 6-29 June in the French-speaking city, will contain more than 800 performing artists, including 72 concerts and 24 evening DJs. "For two years, we have repeatedly said the EURO will be more than just three football games in Geneva," stated Müller. "And the rich programme we revealed today is proof of what we said."

Three venues
Street theatre and other performances will also take place in the city during the EURO. The shows will be staged at three strategic places, the Plaine de Plainpalais, the Bout-du-Monde stadium and in the Vernets ice rink.

International flavour
Many famous international artists will perform as well, such Yannick Noah, Kassav' and Cesaria Evora. But Swiss productions are also planned with Moonraisers, Kid Chocolat or the local singers from Beau Lac de Bâle helping excite the public. Organisers are expecting many celebrations in Geneva with the FanZone, FanVillage and FanClub08 all full.

Carolina Liar - I'm Not Over Lyrics

What a waste of time, the thought crossed my mind
But I never missed a beat
Can’t explain the who or what I was
Trying to believe
What would you do?
What would you do?
Do you know?
I once had a grip on everything
It feels better to let go

Ref

I’m not over
I’m not over you just yet
Cannot hide it
You’re not that easy to forget
I’m not over

Never took the chance, could’ve jump the fence
I was scared of my own two feet
Couldn’t cross the line, it was black and white
No contrast to be seen
What would you do?
What would you do?
Do you know?
Was it all a joke, never had control
I’m not better on my own

Ref

What a waste of time
The thought crossed my mind
Can’t explain this thing, or what I mean
I’m tryïng to let go

EA's official Euro 2008 game gives you the chance to right the failure of any of the home nations to qualify for this summer's tournament. Building on the improvements made to FIFA 08 - slow-paced realism, rock-solid online play - Euro 2008 adds a couple of interesting new features, the best of which sees you compete as one player rather than a whole team. This lone control is immensely satisfying as you time your runs and work the channels. Assists are as satisfying as scoring, and there is even satisfaction from playing as a centre back. Then there is the Battle of the Nations mode - choose your country, start playing and see your on and offline performances aggregated onto a daily leaderboard. At the end of the tournament the country with the most points gets virtual bragging rights. Not as fluid as Pro Evolution Soccer on the pitch but more than a match off, Euro 2008 is far better than expected.
